Jennifer Garner, born April 17, 1972, in Houston, Texas, was raised in Charleston West Virginia. William John Garner worked as a chemist for Union Carbide. Patricia Ann was a teacher at the local school. Following in the footsteps of her father she earned a chemical engineering degree. In order to follow her dream of becoming an actress, she moved in New York to try her chance in the movie industry. She worked as a chef in an eatery in New York and was a part of Broadway productions. She was in a minor part on "Felicity" (where she first met Scott Foley). Garner had her breakthrough in the romantic comedy "13 Goin' on 30" in which she played an teen trapped inside a 30 year-old's body. Garner chose Gary Winick, who directed the film. Both Winick and Garner were able to continue to collaborate to find other projects after his passing. In 2009, Garner was named an artist ambassador by Save the Children U.S.A. This includes the advancement of the importance of nutrition, literacy and early education. Garner is on the board of trustees since 2014. Garner promotes early childhood education. As an ambassador, she often interacts with families that are involved in the organisation's Early Steps to School Success program that guides parents on ways to assist young children develop.
