Laura Linney is an American actor, who became famous for her portrayal of strong but vulnerable characters. Her father was an acclaimed playwright. However, she was raised as an all-only child by her single-mother and nurse. In the summer when she was with her father, Linney developed a passion for the theatre. Linney eventually pursued acting initially through Brown University then at Juilliard School. Following her graduation from Brown University she began making her Broadway debut in the following year. Within two years of the time, her debut film came out and the following year, her debut on television. Her appearances have been in a variety of films, and television and stage shows since. She has won many awards in her long career. These include 4 Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Academy Award Nominations, and five Tony Award Nominations. She has been nominated for five Tony Awards and three Academy Award nominations. But, in spite of her distinctions and awards, theatre is still her passion and she'll continue to play on stage and screen.
